About Us

What “nichijo” means, and why it matters

There is a quiet beauty in everyday Japan that the world has yet to fully discover.

Nice to meet you.
My name is Ken, and I’m the founder of nichijo.

The word nichijo (日常) means “everyday life” in Japanese.
It refers to the ordinary moments we often overlook—the routines, objects, and scenes that quietly shape how we live.

This idea is at the heart of everything we do.

nichijo was created to share Japanese culture with people around the world— from anime and character goods to traditional crafts and everyday objects shaped by history and care.

Not products made for trends or mass consumption,
but items that naturally become part of someone’s daily life.

Discovering the global love for Japanese culture

I previously spent several years working at the Japanese Embassy in the Middle East.
During that time, I often saw how deeply people were moved by Japanese culture.

Handcrafted tableware, textiles, anime merchandise, and character goods— they were not seen as mere products, but as expressions of Japan’s values, aesthetics, and way of life.

What struck me most was not just the popularity,
but the emotional connection people felt toward these everyday Japanese objects.

It became clear to me that Japanese culture resonates far beyond its borders.

At the same time, I noticed another reality— many meaningful Japanese products, rooted in daily life, never reach the global audience that would truly appreciate them.

Wanting to become a bridge

Back then, I could only observe.

I wanted to deliver that sense of excitement and familiarity to more people,
but I didn’t yet have the means.

That question—“How can I personally connect Japan’s everyday culture with the rest of the world?”— eventually led me to building systems that make cross-border connections possible.

To me, technology is not the goal.
It is simply a tool—a bridge.

A bridge between Japanese creators and overseas customers.
Between culture and everyday life.

What nichijo stands for

At nichijo, we curate with intention.

We do not sell products that have no connection to Japanese culture.
We do not chase trends or rely on heavy discounting.
And we do not believe in selling items without understanding their background.

Instead, we focus on:

  • Why this product exists
  • What part of Japanese daily life it comes from
  • How it can quietly enrich someone’s routine

Meaning always comes before merchandise.

Who nichijo is for

nichijo is for people who:

  • Feel drawn to Japanese culture beyond stereotypes
  • Have visited Japan and carry those everyday impressions with them
  • Appreciate subtle design, craftsmanship, and cultural context

This is not about collecting souvenirs.
It is about welcoming a piece of Japan into daily life—where it truly belongs.

Buying with confidence, across borders

Shopping internationally can feel uncertain.
That is why sincerity and clarity matter deeply to us.

We aim to:

  • Clearly explain each product’s story and use
  • Avoid exaggerated or misleading descriptions
  • Offer fair pricing based on value, not hype

Trust is not built through promises,
but through consistent, honest choices.

How nichijo brings products to you

nichijo is an independent online store operated by a small team based in Japan.

We do not manufacture all products ourselves.
Instead, we carefully curate and offer items created by Japanese brands, creators, and trusted production partners.

Some products are shipped directly from our partner stores or production facilities,
including made-to-order items produced by specialized fulfillment services.

While fulfillment may vary by product,
nichijo is the seller of record and remains your point of contact throughout the entire purchasing process.

We take responsibility for communication, customer support, and ensuring a smooth experience from order to delivery.

A final note

In Japanese, nichijo represents the quiet foundation of life— the everyday moments that give meaning to everything else.

There are still countless Japanese creations born from those moments,
waiting to be discovered beyond Japan.

If nichijo can help carry a piece of that everyday beauty across borders
and add a sense of quiet richness to someone’s life,
then this journey is worth taking.

Thank you for being here.
